Social Networking Tips - Protecting Yourself on Twitter

Social Networking Tips - Protecting Yourself on Twitter
By Steven Wagenheim

You really have to be very careful these days when you put yourself out there in front of the public, especially when you begin to build a name for yourself. There are a lot of nut cases out there who can’t wait to take pot shots at you…some of them not so nice. This article is going to deal with Twitter specifically since it is so popular today. These are just a few common sense tips that should help keep you out of trouble. Nothing is fool proof, but these will help.

At the top of the list, and this goes for any place online and not just Twitter, never give personal info about yourself such as where you live. You never know who’s going to send you a ton of junk mail to your postal address just as a joke. It won’t be a joke when you have to go through all that stuff. For some people, it’s probably not a good idea to even use your real name. I found that out the hard way. Of course I like to brand myself so I have to expect to take the bad with the good. Ultimately, it’s your choice as to how much of yourself you put out there.

Next, you want to make sure that you keep all your info, such as passwords, secure. In fact, you might want to regularly change your password. In choosing one, what I do is let Roboform do it for me. Roboform is a great little utility that remembers all your passwords for you plus, if you allow it to choose yours for you, it comes up with some pretty hard to crack ones. They’re all a minimum of 8 characters and pretty well mixed up. They’re certainly better than the ones most people come up with themselves.

But what if somebody steals your identity or makes trouble for you over at Twitter? No problem. Simply report them to Twitter and let them handle it. They have a form that you can fill out where you can choose the offense. One of them is impersonation, which is a great way to damage somebody’s reputation. In order to prove this, you do have to provide Twitter with your personal information so that they can contact you. In this case, you won’t mind it.

Sad as it is, it’s a dangerous world out there. I have learned this first hand. You can never be too careful and no, nothing is 100% fool proof. But if you take enough precautions and report any violations, you give yourself the best chance of surviving the social networking jungle that Twitter is a part of.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim

An Examination Of Twitter Marketing Techniques That Draw On Twitter Automation Web Sites

An Examination Of Twitter Marketing Techniques That Draw on Twitter Automation Web Sites by Peter Celnicker

The rapid enlargement of Twitter automation sites drive Online marketers to waste their time wisely, as some of these tools are potent marketing juggernaughts, and others fairly simple and unnessecary.
Let’s also converse the idea of Twitter automation Vs. Twitter spamming, why one is vital and the other will get you restricted.
The most important difference between Twitter Automation and Twitter spamming has to do with saving some time doing what you were already doing and merely irritating people with nonstop marketing tweets they do not yearn for. The division lies in using a service or product that easily helps us enlarge what we were already doing. A few examples would be:
* Follow new friends
* Post Tweets
* Automatically Follow those who follow you
* Automatically send new followers a direct message
* Search Twitter for key words in Bio, Location, Tweets and more
* Send out RT or retweets
* Set up a calendar of times to post tweets
* The use of URL shorteners to track clicks and other data
* Have posted Tweets go directly to other sites
* Automatically unfollow the people who do not follow you back after a certain period of time
These are a quantity of of the top features accessible for Twitter automation. There a few of web sites that achieve a number of of these and not a bit that do them all. A number of of them are free of charge and others charge approximately $40 a month for the extra valuable Twitter automation tools.
Unluckily, there are other websites and more exclusively websites that agree to or even advance spamming. The disparity is trouble-free, “do onto other as you would have done onto you.” If you do not care on the subject of harmful consequences then spam away, but I guarantee you they will come and you will get black listed. The majority of this stuff is done by online marketers who truly don’t think about about anybody and they lay a unattractive name on automation.
If you would enjoy more information on the subsequent Twitter Automation websites available go to http://celnicker.com. The following techniques will be discussed in detail:

5 Reasons Why Twitter Has Become a Very Popular Site

5 Reasons Why Twitter Has Become a Very Popular Site
By Dee Bovis

Twitter is the new poster child for social media. Time Magazine considered it to be the social media application that will change our lives-in 140 characters or less. When Twitter started in 2006, it was only meant to be used by a closed team of developers. But the 2007 SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas was considered to the tipping point of Twitter in terms of user base and popularity. During the conference, the user base tripled in a span of a day. And it has been on the rise ever since. Some may wonder why Twitter has become so popular. Here are five possible reasons why.

Simplicity

There are a handful of other microblogging services out there, such as Plurk, and even apps within Facebook, that let people send out short status messages. But the great thing about Twitter is that it’s so simple. It’s like comparing the almost-sparse Google’s search page to the cluttered interfaces of of other engines like Yahoo and MSN. Twitter’s own interface doesn’t give you much in terms of bells and whistles in its basic form. If you’re not too tech-savvy, it’s easy enough to understand. You just input your status or your message, and hit the update button, and you’re done. The web interface for viewing your friends’ tweets is simple, as well-it’s just a single reverse-chronologically ordered timeline of tweets.

If you’re the more tech-oriented, Twitter does offer advanced features, like searches, trends, and the like. Third-party applications expand the functionality of the platform by adding multi-column views, trending analysis and the like. But the basic functionality still remains.

Desktop and Mobile Applications

Twitter lets you get into the service not only through its web interface. Since it opened up its API, there have been dozens of third party applications that let you do just about anything. If you’re the type who wants to see everything in one view, you can use TweetDeck or Seesmic Desktop on your computer. If you prefer to tweet while on the go, you can use SMS, or one of the more popular mobile applications like Tweetie for the iPhone or Gravity for Symbian phones. Giving users different ways of using Twitter has made it very popular especially for users who like tweeting on the move.

Your Friends are There

The tipping point for any social media service is actually that point where the service is getting widespread acceptance from your friends. After that, there’s no point in using other similar apps if you have to invite friends all over again. For instance, are you willing to sign up to each and every new microblogging service that someone recommends? Most probably not. You’re on Twitter already. Your friends are there already. Almost everyone who matters is already on Twitter. With this in mind, there is simply no incentive to move elsewhere.

Mainstream Acceptance

Twitter has made appearances in major traditional publications such as the New York Times and Time Magazine. It’s not only because of the widespread use, but also because how Twitter has changed how people consume and share information, much like how full-fledged blogging did in 2005. For instance, Twitter was among the means that concerned citizens of Iran spread the word about alleged election fraud in their most recent presidential elections. It doesn’t mean that Twitter is replacing mainstream media in being a reliable source of news, but it sure is becoming a good medium for transmitting raw information as it happens.

Celebrities

Who doesn’t love celebrities? People who are fond of buying celebrity-oriented tabloids and magazines are sure to love Twitter because of the celebrities who have embraced the medium to reach out to the public. Reading updates from celebrity Twitter users almost feels like being a paparazzo yourself. But this time, there are not commentaries or editorials from columnists or celebrity writers. You get the latest from the celebs themselves, whether they be actors, singers, politicians, or even internet celebrities. It makes them more human and real to the rest of us.

Granted, some of these celebrity Twitter accounts are maintained by publicists and media agents, but you can tell that a lot are updated by the owners themselves. Twitter gives celebrities a voice that’s surprisingly genuine.

The Easy ‘How to Learn Twitter For Beginners’

Filed under: Twitter — admin @ 6:49 am

The Easy ‘How to Learn Twitter For Beginners’
By Martin Sejas

This ‘How to Learn Twitter for Beginners’ is going to be teaching you much on how to get start with it. For you who are still new to or still learning much about Twitter, you will benefit much from this article.

First Few Baby Steps:

1. Go to twitter.com. See that green button that reads “Sign up now”? Click on it to start creating your Twitter profile. *Notice that there isn’t much to fill up.

2. Once you are done filling up your profile information, you will be prompted to do a search for your friends on the site or not. Just enter your e-mail address and password. You could go ahead and skip this step.

3. Then, a page showing you a list of random people you might know and want to follow on Twitter will appear. These people are mostly celebrities or popular companies and etc. You mat also skip this step if you do not want to add these people.

4. You are already done. You can now add a picture of yourself and tweak your profile page.

What Else Can I do?

Now that you have your own profile, you can easily navigate through the Twitter pages. You can now look for people to follow and if you want to do that, check out the Twitter directories to look for people who have similar interests as you (examples of the sites that offer this kind of service are justtweetit.com and twellow.com). Once you follow them, you will be able to see whatever they tweet on your home page. By the way, a “tweet” is what Twitter calls a post or an update that you send to the site. Tweets is what Twitter is about.

It’s Time to Tweet!

You may write about whatever you wish, reply to other people’s posts, or retweet a post that you think deserves it. To reply, simply click the retweet button on someone else’s posted tweet. Retweeting is just another way of saying “repeat” on Twitter; you can repeat other people’s tweets, and even your own tweets for the sake of reminding yourself and others about certain topics.

Since Twitter is a micro-blogging site, it has a character limit which means that you cannot write beyond a specific number of letters, where, in this case, you only have 140 characters to spare. However, that is nothing to worry about because there are applications that can help you solve that problem such as TinyPaste and TweetShrink.

What Else Is So Cool About Twitter?

Tweet anywhere at any time! Register your cellular number so you may use it for Twitter. Simply click on the “Settings” link on the upper portion of your Twitter account page. Select the “Phone & IM” link on this page. Enter your cell number along with your area code in the “Mobile Phone Number” text box and the click on “Save”. If you want to receive updates on your cell phone from Twitter, then check the box corresponding to “It’s okay for Twitter to send text messages to my phone. Standard rates apply.” If you are outside the U.S., begin your phone number with a “+” and your country code. When you’re done with all of that, just wait for Twitter to send you a text message saying “That worked! What are you doing now?” Now you can receive and send updates through text messages wherever you are!

These are some of things you would need to know about Twitter so far. I leave it to you to explore all you can on Twitter. You could make use of this How to Learn Twitter for Beginners reading as a reference to help start you off with Tweeter!

Twitversity is an education course which uses video tutorials to teach Twitter for beginners. The tutorials allows beginners to become experts in 14 days or less. The first lesson is available as a free download.

5 High-Powered Twitter Tips to Get More Followers, Traffic, & Sales
By Puneet Kumar Singhal

Today, Twitter is one of the most powerful social networking website which is used by the internet marketers to build credibility and get instant traffic to their websites. If you have not yet included Twitter in your marketing plan, then I strongly recommend you doing it right now to get the best results out of your marketing efforts.

Here are my 5 powerful tips to get the most out of your Twitter marketing efforts:-

1. Choose your networking partners very carefully

Only network with the relevant people from your industry like your business associates, competitors, and peers. You don’t have to accept every person who wants to follow you on Twitter if you don’t share similar interests. Instead, choose your networking partners carefully and look for people who work within your particular niche. Then, make sure to follow their progress, look for their advice, and of course, give some of your input as well to build your credibility.

2. Use Twitterfeed to maximize the potential of Twitter

Make sure to use Twitterfeed to help people in your network stay updated. Twitterfeed is basically the website’s response to an RSS feed, and it is one of the great way to automatically keep your network partners updated without them checking your page. It also allows things to be updated on their own, so you are not required to spend extra time telling everyone you have an update; it is all done for you.

3. Flash your Twitter profile wherever possible

Make sure to display your Twitter profile on your website, business cards, and in email signatures. Remind people in every possible way that you are on Twitter. You may get a snapshot of the home page of your Twitter profile and then display it on your actual website. Include the Twitter profile URL in your email signatures and if you like you can even get this print on your business card.

4. Include a video plug-in on your Twitter page

To make things little more exciting you may incorporate a video into your Twitter page. There are many people who do not know that now Twitter allows multimedia additions, so please feel free to include video plug-ins on your Twitter profile page. This will build your credibility in your niche and people would like to follow your postings more closely if you have video included in your profile.

5. Host different contests and events for your followers

Host different contests, surveys and events for your followers to keep them interested and engaged in your tweets. You may want to host a giveaway event on Twitter for your followers only. Freebies are always a guarantee of getting new followers and this will build your credibility in your niche.

Reactive Marketing Through Twitter

Reactive Marketing Through Twitter
By Barry Dixon

Showcasing your products and services in a better way can be easily achieved through social media like Twitter. You could take better control of scenarios on who is following you, what are their customer profiles and their interests. You could initiate marketing campaigns to meet their needs and at the same time sell more by socializing.

You can take account on the hot topics of discussion through tweets, what people are following online and what could be the future products they might be interested in. There are numerous marketing and sales opportunities through Twitter. One of the biggest challenges to play around while on Twitter is its dynamic power. People, their preferences and current activities keep on changing. So the question arises how do you zero upon their interests?

To understand a typical customer’s profile on Internet would require some researching. Generally a typical customer tends to follow a similar pattern. For example, they will tweet on the topics that interests them more often - comedy, controversy or being a self starter etc. The next cue is to channelize which topic or niche they are concentrating more - politics, religion, current news or something else.

You should then analyze and see how you can provide the best fitment to meet their needs. If you are trying to sell through ‘one size fits all’ you are invariable positioned to fail. You should focus on customizing your services in order to sell and gain more from the social media like Twitter.

You should follow people strategically. The important aspect is to follow the people who can benefit you more rather than following anyone to everyone. Anyone who is just around to establish a personal brand might not be a suitable target from a selling point of view. You should do some researching about the user profile before making an attempt to follow them.

In order to establish yourself as a successful marketer you should emphasize on the importance of adaptability and change. Your marketing efforts should be aligned in a manner that reflects customer interests and preferences. You should post quality content while tweeting so that you can maximize from the marketing efforts all the more.

Twitter Marketing - 4 Steps to Making Twitter Pay

Twitter Marketing - 4 Steps to Making Twitter Pay
By Gregory Collins

Twitter is the king of the hill in social media right now. Marketers around the world have been looking for ways to use Twitter for marketing and better leverage their time.

I was just listening to a phone interview with Joel Comm over at the List Building Club where he shared his 4 steps of making Twitter pay.

You can use these four steps to build both your online and offline business. They are basic and universal principles that have stood the test of time.

Know Me

The first step is to simply get acquainted. Be a good listener and ask appropriate questions. See what people are talking about and join in the conversation.

Like Me

As people get to know you, a relationship will develop and you will naturally be attracted to some more than others. The same thing will happen with your followers.

It’s OK that not everyone will like you. Millions of people on Twitter are looking for someone like you.

Trust Me

It takes time to build trust, so don’t expect it to happen overnight. When you start and build relationships, trust will build over time.

Pay Me

People don’t like to be sold to by strangers but they appreciate when a friend lets them know about a good deal. Focus on being that trusted friend and not the pushy salesman.

You may have heard of the 80/20 rule, well when you are starting out building your relationships on Twitter, I would recommend that you not do any marketing at all. Focus on the first three steps of getting people to know, like and trust you.

When that trust is established, make sure that you keep things at least 90% content and less than 10% marketing links.

Twitter Tip: When you do recommend a product or service, I have found that it is helpful to point to a blog post on the subject with your affiliate link, rather than putting your affiliate link directly on Twitter.

What do the top Twitter marketers do that you don’t? Gregory has just released his new teleseminar series, ‘Tweet Success Club’, that picks their brains and reveals their secrets of using Twitter for marketing.

Avoid Getting Your Twitter Account Deleted

Avoid Getting Your Twitter Account Deleted
By Josh Thompsonand Jimmy Ting

It’s not surprising for many people to spend so much time and efforts to get more followers on Twitter since without these followers to drive your traffic, there will be no sales. One way to go about this is to follow some of the most popular people in the niche you wish to work on. By doing so, about half of these people will follow you back. This is a clever way that most people have yet to spot out.

Even though that method is a rather smart way to solve the problem, you still have to add followers one by one manually. Time becomes an issue, and most people just don’t enjoy hours of clicking. Like most problems, there is a solution, and tools have been developed and released to the market place. Tools of different purposes, such as auto-following people, or choose people to follow based on a set of criteria. Some of these do so by following anyone who tweets a certain keyword. There’s just no comparison between the speed of building your Twitter’s followers list manually and doing it automatically.

Although it is the faster lane, you still need to take it easy on the pedal. Twitter does monitor the different methods that people use to build their accounts, so if you do not wish for your Twitter account to be deleted, it’s best to develop it gradually. Just be sure that your ratio of people you are following to people who are following you back looks as ordinary as possible. Once your list becomes larger and larger, you will get more and more followers since you will be on some of the top follower lists. This drives your traffic even more, resulting in more sales!

In a marketer’s eye, the business is driven by the number of followers you have. In reality, having a good relationship with your followers and the people you follow is more important. As Twitter becomes part of your business model, you need to make your follower’s list larger and larger. Then comes the part of establishing an effective marketing strategy and learn how to use Twitter to drive traffic and make sales. People DO make thousands and thousands of dollars a month using Twitter. Can you become one of them now? YES, YOU CAN!

How Twitter Follow Buttons Improve Networking

How Twitter Follow Buttons Improve Networking
By Ksai Jac

It is said that today, one is as successful as his contacts. Networking is the new buzzword. Everyone from marketers to Internet users want to use the new powerhouse, the Internet, to improve their networking. Move over pubs and discotheques, lounges and clubs, social networking sites are the new happening places. A person’s success is measured in terms of his Twitter followers and contacts in Facebook. To find new followers and attract them to your Twitter page, some must-have items are Twitter follow Buttons and badges.

Before we go into further detail, let us understand the phenomenon of Twitter and how it may be useful not only to individuals but also to corporate houses. Twitter is a micro-blogging tool where the number of characters per update is limited to about 140 per entry. A cross between a blog and instant messaging, it is easy to update entries as messages are short and do not take long to plan and compose (as in a blog post). CEOs can use it to share thoughts when they don’t have time for lengthy communication, the PR department can use it for customer relations, the marketing department uses it for promotions and friends use it simply to keep in touch. Twitter follow buttons make the process more attractive and appealing for all.

An attractive Twitter follow button can be used to leverage online presence of the same user, such as blogs, websites and social networking accounts. So, while one of them may lead to a personal blog, another may offer special discount coupons for a product, and still another may lead to customer feedback blog postings highlighting the benefits of a product. These buttons offered by different websites come in attractive designs and colors that users find engaging. Some of them are animated as well. This increases the effect multifold.

Twitter is the latest marketing tool for corporate houses and marketers, especially in the USA. Today, large companies such as Dell are using Twitter accounts for customer relations and product promotions. Twitter follow buttons are being innovatively used to distribute product coupons and promotional offers, announce sales and deals and pass on information to the target group. Also, companies are using Twitter to monitor their brand and stay in touch with consumers.

When attending events or conferences, live updates on Twitter are a common practice of users. Twitter follow buttons specially designed and incorporated for the purpose are always a hit with everybody. Twitter also provides an easy way to post links to blogs, news articles and other information on the Internet. These posts provide links to blogs and promotional websites, webinars and interesting news.

Theme pages in addition to buttons increase the appeal of the page. For example, during Christmas, a snowy page featuring a Christmas tree with Santa Twitter Follow buttons that lead to special offers, holiday packages and gift ideas has brought in great business for many companies, last year.

Similar innovative uses of Follow buttons are constantly being incorporated by individuals and corporate houses to maximize the exposure from their Twitter accounts. Why lag behind with a dowdy Twitter page? Increase its appeal with your specific Twitter Follow buttons.
